Beginning in late March, bears emerge from hibernation and are often seen feeding along the shoreline and among herbaceous growth near Bute Inlet Lodge. As snowpacks recede and summer arrives, bears begin to disperse into the larger available foraging area. Beginning in late August salmon begin returning to local rivers and the grizzly bears begin to concentrate again. The Orford River, a 30 minute boat ride from Bute Inlet Lodge offers numerous viewing platforms to observe grizzly bears as they catch the returning salmon from late August to mid October.
Bute Inlet Lodge is located in Bear Bay, aptly named for the black or grizzly bears that often appear within sight of the lodge.
